Levelling Up Health and Wellbeing

Uttlesford Health and Wellbeing Strategy

Wider system working

The recent launch of the Uttlesford Health and Wellbeing Strategy aims to ensure that all children, young people, and adults in Uttlesford can live healthy, fulfilling, and long lives.

As a trusted partner within the system, Active Essex was invited by the Public Health Officer of Uttlesford District Council to assist in bringing key system partners together to co-design the areas of focus under each of the five priorities.

Active Essex co-delivered this session with Uttlesford District Council, fostering collaboration and inclusivity. This partnership allowed key strategic partners to have a voice and contribute to the sub-priorities, leading to a sense of ownership and commitment.

The five priorities outlined, are:

  • Improve and support mental wellbeing
  • Enable people to live healthy, active lifestyles throughout their lives
  • Build healthy, resilient, active communities
  • Alleviate pressures associated with increased costs of living
  • Improve access to services and facilities

The priorities session was crucial in identifying and emphasising key priorities that resonated with system partners and aligned with their own strategic goals. This laid the foundation for collaborative working and provided a sense of co-ownership.

The priorities session was essential for creating a focused and effective strategy. The collaboration between Active Essex and Uttlesford District Council empowered strategic partners, ensuring that the strategy is comprehensive and supported by all involved.

The approach taken by Uttlesford, really aligns with the way we strive to work at Active Essex. As the priorities were finalised and the relevant sub-groups were established, we have been able to, and continue to, positively support these priorities through a movement and physical activity lens. As well as advocating for the work of locally trusted organisations across Uttlesford, helping local communities improve their health and wellbeing.

The partners involved in the session really helped place the value of the health and wellbeing strategy at the centre of the Uttlesford system. By co-designing and collaborating with these partners they are working towards one shared vision, and now better understand each of their roles to achieve this.

Partners consisted of Uttlesford District Council, Mind in West Essex, Herts and West Essex ICB, 1Life – Leisure, UCAN and Essex County Council representatives.

I wanted to say a big thank you for all of Active Essex’s help! Initial feedback has been very positive and sets us up in the right direction.
