Public Health Funding Programme
Public Health Accelerator Bid (PHAB)
The PHAB programme aims to fund new projects to help people in Essex to get active and live a healthy lifestyle. £7.5 million funding from the Essex Public Health team, will allow this programme to run for three years.
Making a difference to the lives of many vulnerable residents across Essex, PHAB focuses on closing the health inequalities experienced in the county, which can restrict people from getting active and making healthy life choices. The grants are split into two categories, which are small and major grants.
Focusing on the four pillars, health, families, environment and economy of Essex County Councils strategy, Everyone’s Essex, PHAB will aim to support projects that are contributing directly with the wider determinants of good health outlined by the council.
The PHAB programme, brings Active Essex and Essex Public Health teams closer than ever. Under management of both Director of Public Health, and Active Essex, it supports Public Health's vision, that health should be everyone’s business. Using Active Essex's knowledge, learning of previous funding schemes and their local connections, the PHAB team have already developed relationships with voluntary, community and local business sectors to work collaboratively to improve the health of Essex residents.
The small grants can offer organisations £500-£7,500, and major grant funding can offer anything from £15,000. These grants can fund;
- Project staff
- Material and equipment
- Room/venue hire
- Qualifications and upskilling
- Transport
- Volunteer expenses
- Project evaluation
- Testing new ways of working
- Developing governance and leadership
- Developing and sharing impact, and learning
To ensure sustainable improvements in healthy behaviours among Essex residents, the plan highlights key risk factors that contribute to a high proportion of disease, disability, and premature death in Essex.
Covering a three-year period (2023-26) they aim to lay the foundations for the achievement of longer-term health outcomes to allow everyone in Essex to live a healthy life and achieve their full potential. Key risk factors that have needed to be addressed will lay the foundation for Essex residents achieving a healthy lifestyle.
