Senior Wellbeing Hub
Activity classes for over 65’s
The Senior Wellbeing Hub at Budworth Hall provides health and wellbeing support to older residents through a range of activity sessions in Ongar and surrounding areas.
Due to popular demand, further classes were provided because of the significant increase in residents’ physical wellbeing with movement and general mobility improving, allowing more people to access this community-based falls prevention offer.
Michelle and Amanda who led the sessions were already supporting older residents in Ongar and the surrounding areas at the Senior Wellbeing Hub, but through additional funding from Ride London-Essex, they have been able to offer more classes and different activities.
The additional class now offered is benefiting participants further by progressing them onto more strength and functional moves, with a focus on helping with key movements around the home such as getting up out of a chair, out of the bath, core stability and ability to get up of the floor, therefore increasing independence within their own home. This has also helped to give residents confidence and increased their emotional, physical and mental wellbeing.
This additional class has enabled selected spaces to move into early classes, meaning more residents can be referred from Epping Forest Social Active Strong classes into this community setting, supporting as many residents needed.
The sessions have had a positive impact on residents’ physical heath and emotional wellbeing, also providing a safe setting for people to have conversations, reducing social isolation.
