Get Golfing

Breaking barriers to participation through golfing

Get Golfing is committed to making golf accessible to everyone, regardless of their background or circumstances. Through their innovative outreach programmes, they work with local communities to provide equipment, coaching, free meals, and support to those who may face obstacles in joining traditional golf clubs.

Being a part of the Essex ActivAte programme and offering their own initiative, Fun, Food, and Golf, offers families and young people the opportunity to not only get active through golf, but to enjoy a nutritious breakfast and healthy meals, aiming to teach participants the importance of a healthy, active lifestyle, both on and off the golf course.

Prime Objective:
to offer free golfing for groups that have barriers to participation
AE Second
Second Objective:
to enrich lives and promote health and wellbeing

Across their holiday programmes this year, young people enjoyed trying hot foods and progressing their golf skills, families also received food hampers during the festive break to support them during the cost-of-living crisis.

The camps provided children and families with opportunities to play golf, enjoy, achieve, be active, and meet positive peer groups. The benefits to increasing confidence and mental health are achieved through a balance of golfing and being outdoors, developing concentration, relaxation, achieving goals, and encouraging participation at any level.

This has been the best camp I have ever been to, I love golf and have never hit a golf ball before. IT was such a lovely feeling when I hit the ball well, it made me so happy. The staff were so lovely to us and the food was great, I had 4 bowls!

Get Golfing also adopts a whole-family approach, encouraging everyone to get involved. They offer mums and daughters sessions to increase the participation of women and girls in golf.

Club ambassadors have been enthused by helping and seeing the benefits for deprived children, having opportunities to be outdoors and play golf. They have been proud to be part of a club where they are members, and this ethos is at the heart of the club. The ambassadors have been telling their friends at the club, which has led to more members wanting to get involved and volunteer.

I really can’t thank you enough, Ann. The boys said they had such an amazing time. I’m always a little worried if they will enjoy something as they all have such complex needs and are all so different. They all got in the car, full of excitement, talking over each other to tell them how great it had been! I can honestly say that we have never had them all be so enthusiastic about the same thing, as they are really are all such different boys when it comes down to the things they enjoy doing. Thank you so much to you and your lovely team for all of your hard work and providing so much fun for the boys. We are forever grateful!

Get Golfing has wider aims for the project, including helping young people to be outdoors and involved in positive activities, diverting them from crime, promoting school inclusion, working as part of a team, and preventing anti-social behaviour in the local area.
