With support and funding from Active Essex, Feelgood Fitness were able to expand their offer to individuals who are living with Parkinsons, Dementia and Cerebral Palsy, or those who are recovering from a stroke. By providing a safe and non-judgemental environment, participants feel at ease and comfortable when taking part in a session.

AE Whos it for
Who's it for?
People living with a long-term health condition or recovering from a stroke
AE Prime
Prime Objective:
to support members with individual needs through physical activity
AE Second
Second Objective:
to improve the mobility and wellbeing of participants

Offering a wide range of studio classes specifically tailored for all ages and abilities, allows participants to workout regularly without feeling self-conscious or intimidated. The gym area has a selection of user-friendly machines and personalised exercise programmes are offered to help individuals reach their goals.

Physical activity has many benefits, particularly for people living with a long-term health condition (LTHC). Not only can it help to maintain strength, flexibility and balance, but studies have shown that it can help thinking skills, memory and cognitive function too, with some saying it can slow down the progression of the disease. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is important for people living with a long-term health condition, as it allows them to continue to do the things that they enjoy, improve independence and also carry out everyday tasks.

At Feelgood, participants are given the option to buddy up with a volunteer, to help give them encouragement and a recognisable friendly face each time they attend. This in turn provides them with essential social interaction, which positively contributes to their overall wellbeing.

Improving strength, balance and mobility

From the first moment of visiting Feelgood Fitness, you could feel the energy of Aaron and his volunteers, to support and improve the lives of individuals. Whether it's day-to-day members or assisting individuals from local groups that suffer from a variety of long-term health conditions, the commitment and determination to provide adapted sessions, group classes to encourage socialisation and personalised 1:1 support, is inspirational and a real credit to their community.
